RAINBOW TROUT
Oncorhynchus mykiss
On smaller mountain streams, where rainbows grow no larger than 10 or 12 inches, they never lose the large purple spots on their sides known as parr marks. On the small coastal streams in Big Sur, some of which have barriers to migration preventing the fish from reaching the ocean, they have washes of gold and orange on their sides, and clean white tips on their fins like this one.
